Q). What shoes should I wear?

A). For our heels classes, If you are not yet comfortable dancing in heels, feel free to wear trainers/ heeled boots (kitten heels are welcomed) and work your way up to stilettos whenever you feel that you are ready, and where advised by the teacher based on your progress and strength. No matter what you wear, we want to get you up and moving, so we would prefer you to prioritise comfort as a beginner. For intermediate/advanced level dancers, bring along your heels (stiletto heels are preferred over block heels), they do not need to be skyscrapers (3inches and above) and make sure that they provide good ankle support and support for the outside of the foot.

Q). Is the class beginner friendly?

A). Absolutely all levels are welcomed, we intend to start of with the very basics, so that we can build gradually at a pace that suits your individual needs as a dancer as well as the needs of the class. For dancers already at an intermediate/ advanced level, there will variations within the choreography, so that we can all feel like we are being challenged and included.

Q). What should I wear?

A). Comfort is key when it comes to getting dressed for a Play-Skhul class. Joggers, leggings, shorts, hot pants, t-shirts, hoodies, vests, crop tops, sports bras... better yet check out our Skhul Uniform tab for the perfect Play- Skhul dance attire.

Q). What type of music will we be dancing to?

A). At Play-Skhul we are not bound by genre, so we will be dancing to any and every type of music: Afro-beats, R&B, Pop, Hip-hop (old Skhul and NEW Skhul); current chart toppers, jazz instrumentals, Rock and Roll, the list goes on. We are also open to song suggestions.

Q). I have a disability, can I part take in Play-Skhul classes?

A). The answer to this question is ‘hell yeah!’ At Play-Skhul we strive for inclusive practise for all. In order to cater to your individual needs as a dancer, it is important that you let us know your requirements in the personal profile section of your portal. This will give the teacher better understanding of what will and wont work for you, as well as ways that they can help you feel better included during your Play-Skhul dance lesson.

A). To cancel a class/ private lesson, log into your portal on the Play-Skhul website and cancel via your personal profile. Q). What procedures have been put in place as a result of Covid-19?

A). In response to the current global pandemic, Play-Skhul will be offering one to one private lessons. This will continue until we receive further information from the government and until there is an appropriate home studio for Play-Skhul, where we are able to socially distance effectively without affecting the quality of our teaching and our fun.

Q). What if I can't dance in heels?

A). Skhul is for learning, and here at Play-Skhul it will not be long until you are strutting like Naomi. At our classes you will learn how to balance through use of core; correct alignment of your feet and  posture, in addition to the strength you will need to strut with ease and of course, how to swing those hips for a bit of added excitement.

And for all the dancers that have no desire to get a pair of heels on, whether you are flying high in heels or you have the souls of your feet planted firmly on the ground, Play-Skhul caters to all of your dance needs.
